An drape blooms with small florals and a bold figurative pallu in mustard yellow.

Why this piece

  • Opaque and light — a measured 50 GSM, so nothing shows through the ground.
  • Consistent print — the mustard yellow reads clean against the because every piece is printed to the same repeat.
  • Mustard pallu panel — a large rectangular pallu panel of elephants, peacocks and floral compositions in bordered sections, framed by a wide contrast mustard band, the feature that sets this drape apart from the ones beside it.

The print

The design is a small floral print all over, in the Madhubani idiom, opening into large figurative pallu panels. It is printed digitally in Bangalore by a specialist print studio, with the same repeat used on every piece, so the colour and pattern arrive as drawn.

The pallu

The pallu opens into a large rectangular panel of elephants, peacocks and floral compositions, set in distinct bordered sections — the display end of an otherwise quiet, small-floral body. A wide mustard band frames the edges and ties the two together.

The drape

It is soft and smooth with a fluid, lightweight fall — 6.2 to 6.3 metres in total at 44 to 45 inches wide, made up of a 5.5 metre drape and a 0.8 metre (80 cm) running blouse piece continuous with it. The whole thing weighs about 425 grams, so it carries easily through a long day.

Every measurement here is stated plainly — 6.2 to 6.3 metres, 44 to 45 inches, 50 GSM, 425 grams — rather than left to a vague 'fabric' line you have to guess at.

Wearing it

Its light weight, matte surface and easy fall suit daytime festive occasions, office wear and celebrations. The body with a warm mustard pallu reads bright but not loud, which is what makes it work for a daytime function as much as a full working day.

Colour hues may vary slightly from the images because of different screens and displays.
