Dark purple, gold at the edge

A dark, even purple with a fine check laid over it, and gold held at the borders where the drape falls open.

The design

The check is small enough to read as texture across the body, then repeats in gold along the broad border so the edge picks up light the body does not. The pallu closes the same way. The bugdi border reads the same on both faces.

How it is woven

Handwoven on a pit loom in Maheshwar, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, with the weft going in by hand and a dobby setting the check on body, border and pallu.
